The BGI only carries out research and is no longer making tests or certificates.

• All traders, shops or wholesalers are most welcome to use the BGI Gem Lab, and receive the special low trade prices for BGI certificates & services. This allows the trade to make a fair profit in dealing with the Public and using BGI certificates to ensure a fair transaction for both sides. The BGI fully appreciates shops and offices cost a great deal to maintain and run, and so BGI created this scheme to allow traders to profit by using BGI certificates which specifically aim to protect the public from the incorrect grading of diamonds in particular.

• Traders can submit any item with an order form, and need only mention some proof of gem trade activity such as notepaper, website details and VAT number.

• Please ask for a BGI price list by e-mail. BGI was the first UK Gem Laboratory to offer an Express Service, and this can be achieved in hours in most cases, so ask for those details if required. BGI has been chosen by the biggest retailers to certify goods and advise on best practice, and offers trade discounts for larger quantities of mounted or loose gems, so please ask for the details of wholesale quantity discounts. Sadly not all gem certificates are as accurate as they should be. • BGI is also available to value any item, and settle disputes by using the BGI Arbitration Reports service, which so far has 100% success in avoiding unnecessary court time and legal fees for both parties.

• All BGI staff remain dedicated to strict fairness for everyone with the sole aim of improving standards and facilitating good legal practice in the jewellery trades.
